Scorecard Funnel: How to Build One for Your Offer

Quizzerfy · · 5 min read

A scorecard funnel is a quiz that rates a visitor on a few dimensions, gives them a score, and pitches the fix for their weakest area. It works well for coaches and educators, because your product becomes the answer to a gap the visitor has just measured for themselves.

What problem does a scorecard funnel solve?

You sell advice or a program, and many visitors cannot say what they need. They know something is off with their launch, their newsletter or their habits. They do not know which part. So they read your offer, cannot connect it to their situation, and leave to think about it.

What happens if people cannot see their own gap?

They stay in research mode. You answer the same questions in your inbox and take calls with people who were never going to buy. Good-fit buyers wait for a day when they feel sure. That day rarely comes on its own.

A score changes the conversation. A visitor who has rated themselves on three areas has a specific problem in front of them, in their own answers.

How does a scorecard funnel work?

The structure has four moving parts.

  1. Dimensions. Choose two to four areas that decide success in your topic.
  2. Questions. Write a few questions for each dimension, with points on each answer.
  3. Scoring logic. Add up the points for each dimension, and find the weakest.
  4. Outcomes. Write one result page for each weak area, each with its own pitch.

Here is what those dimensions look like in three templates.

Scorecard Dimensions Pitch
Launch Readiness Score Offer, audience, launch assets The fix for the weakest of the three
Newsletter Growth Score Consistency, growth, revenue The fix for the weakest of the three
Coaching Readiness Score Clarity, commitment, openness Ready people buy, and the rest learn what to fix

How do you choose the dimensions?

Ask what you check first when you take on a new client. Those checks are your dimensions. They should meet two conditions:

  • Separate. A person could be strong on one and weak on another.
  • Fixable. There is something they can do about each one, and ideally your product helps.

If you cannot tie a dimension to an outcome, drop it. A dimension that changes nothing at the end only makes the quiz longer.

How should you write scorecard questions?

Describe what the visitor is doing, in plain behavior, and let them pick. Avoid questions where the good answer is obvious, or everyone will score high and the result means nothing.

Give each answer points for one or more dimensions. Keep the scale simple. You are not building a clinical instrument, and you should not present your score as a validated measure. It is a useful snapshot, and you can say so.

Then test your logic. Answer the quiz as a beginner and as an expert, and make sure each lands where you expect. See quiz funnel questions for more on wording.

What goes on the result page?

Show the score, then the weakest area, then what to do about it.

Tell the person what their score means in a sentence. Give them one action they can take today. Then pitch your product as the structured way to fix that area. The page should be useful even to someone who does not buy, which is also what earns trust from someone who might. See how to build a quiz results page for block-by-block detail.

A low score needs care. Nobody wants to feel judged by a stranger’s quiz, so frame the result around the next move. For a person who scores low overall, an honest “fix this first” outcome is better than a hard sell.

Who should use a scorecard instead of another type?

Use a scorecard when your buyer needs a diagnosis before they will accept a solution. If you sell one product that either fits or does not, a fit check is simpler. If you sell several, a recommender suits better. The quiz funnel guide compares all four types.

How do you follow up after someone gets a score?

The score gives you a natural reason to email. Repeat the result in your first message, then send a short series on their weakest area. Someone who scored low on audience does not need your emails on launch assets yet.

Every lead in Quizzerfy keeps its score, and a webhook sends it to other tools. That lets you sort people by need, not only by interest.

You can also invite people to retake the scorecard after a few months. A second score shows them how far they have come, and it gives you a fresh reason to get in touch. If you sell coaching, the answers also make a useful starting point for a first call. See segmenting your email list with a quiz for how to set this up.
