How to Make a Quiz Funnel in 7 Steps (No Developer Needed)
To make a quiz funnel, decide on your outcomes first, then write only the questions that sort people into them. After that you add a lead form, build one outcome page per path, link each to checkout and publish.
Most first quizzes go wrong in the opposite order. The creator opens a tool and starts writing fun questions.
Why do most first quizzes fail to sell?
They start at the wrong end. You write eight questions, you like them, and then you reach the result screen with no idea what to say. So every result ends up as a mild variation of the same pitch. The visitor did the work of answering and got nothing that reflects their answers.
That costs you the one thing a quiz is good at. A quiz promises a personal answer. When the result feels generic, the visitor notices, and they close the tab with your promise broken.
The fix is to work backwards from the sale.
Step 1: What one product is this quiz selling?
Pick one product, or one small catalog. Open your sales page next to you, since most of what you need is already there: who it is for, who it is not for, and the objections you answer.
If you sell a single flagship, you want a fit check. If you sell three or more products, you want a recommender. Our quiz funnel guide explains the four types.
Step 2: What outcomes do you need?
Write the end of the funnel first. Aim for two to four outcomes, and make each one a real, different thing you would say to that person.
For a course, those could be:
- Ready: pitch the course directly.
- Close: pitch the course, plus what to do in the first week.
- Not yet: say so honestly, and point them to a free first step.
An honest “not yet” result is worth keeping. It tells the ready visitors that your yes means something.
Step 3: Which questions sort people into those outcomes?
Now write the questions. Each one needs to move someone toward an outcome. Good sorting questions ask about level, goal, available time, what they have tried and what is stopping them.
Keep it short. Quizzerfy’s AI builds quizzes of 5 to 9 questions, and that range is a useful limit when you write by hand as well. See how to write quiz funnel questions for the details.
Step 4: How should the branches work?
You have three routing options:
| Route by | How it works | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Answer | One answer sends people down a set path | A single fact changes the pitch |
| Score | Answers add points, and the total picks the outcome | You are measuring readiness or fit |
| Rules | Conditions combine several answers | The decision depends on more than one thing |
Start with the simplest route that works. You can always add branches after you see real data.
Step 5: Where does the lead form go?
Decide if the email comes before the result or after it. Both are valid, and the choice is a trade-off between list size and goodwill. We cover the trade-off in quiz email capture. Whichever you choose, tell people what they will get and add a consent checkbox if your list needs one.
Step 6: What goes on each outcome page?
Each result needs a headline that names their situation, a short explanation built from their answers, the product, the price and one button. Write a page per outcome, not one page with a swapped sentence. Quiz results page goes through each block.
Step 7: How do you publish and improve it?
Put it where people already are: your link in bio, your sales page or an embed on your site. Then watch four numbers: starts, completions, leads and CTA clicks. When completions are low, look at drop-off per question (shown on Pro in Quizzerfy) and rewrite the question where people leave.
What mistakes should you avoid on a first quiz?
Four slips account for a lot of weak first quizzes, and each one is quick to catch before you publish.
- Too many outcomes. Six results means six pages to write and keep up. Merge any two that make the same pitch.
- Questions with one obvious answer. If everyone picks the same option, the question sorts nobody. Rewrite it or cut it.
- A hook about you. Take our quiz gives a visitor no reason to start. Promise an answer to something they already wonder about.
- No plan for the not-yet path. A visitor who is wrong for the product still deserves a useful ending, and that ending can keep them on your list.
Walk every path yourself before launch. Then ask one person who fits your buyer to take it while you watch where they pause.
What is the fastest way to build it?
Those seven steps are the same in any tool. Quizzerfy gives you three ways through them.
- AI in the app: paste your sales page link, or use a PDF, an EPUB, a Notion export or a description. It generates questions, branches, scoring, a lead form and outcome pages for 10 credits. Pro includes 150 credits a month, and every plan starts with a 7-day free trial.
- Your own AI through MCP: connect Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor and build from a chat. No call spends a credit.
- By hand: drag nodes on a canvas or work down a list. Manual edits are free.
You can also start from one of the 12 templates. The Ebook Fit Check and the Course Fit Check already follow the structure above.
A validator checks that every path reaches an outcome before anything goes live, so you cannot ship a dead end. Then walk each path in the preview.
