How to Sell Coaching Online Without Poor-Fit Clients

Quizzerfy · · 5 min read

To sell coaching online, define one clear transformation, package it as a program with a set length and price, and let prospects qualify themselves before they book a call. That keeps your time on people who are ready to do the work.

Why does selling coaching feel so draining?

You post, you get an inquiry, you book a call, and you spend the first half of it finding out the person is not ready. They do not have the budget, or the time, or a clear goal. You like them, so you try to help on the spot, and the call ends with a thanks and no sale.

Do that three times in a week and you start to dread your calendar.

What do poor-fit clients cost you?

Your calendar is your stock. Every call with someone who was never going to buy is an hour you could have spent with a client or on your own marketing. If a poor-fit client does sign up, the cost goes up. They need more of your energy, and they are less likely to get a result you can talk about.

How do you sell coaching online step by step?

Five steps cover it.

1. Define one transformation

Name where the client starts and where they end up. Help people with their careers is too broad. Help mid-level managers move into their first director role is something a person can say yes to.

2. Package the offer

Sell a program, not hours. Give it a name, a length, a clear structure and a price. A package is easier to compare and easier to buy, and you stop quoting a custom rate on every call.

Format Good for Your limit
1:1 program High-touch, tailored work Your hours
Group program A shared problem, peer support Group size and scheduling
Paid workshop A low-commitment first step Depth of the result

3. Write a page that filters

Your sales page should say who the program is for, and who it is not for. Saying no in public is a sign of confidence, and it stops some poor-fit inquiries before they reach you.

4. Build trust in public

Teach parts of your method for free. Coaching is a trust purchase, and useful posts let a stranger see how you think before they book. Use only real client stories, with permission.

5. Qualify before the call

Put one step between interest and your calendar. This is where a short readiness quiz earns its place.

How does a readiness quiz qualify clients?

A booking link tells you nothing about who is coming. A short quiz asks the questions you would ask in the first ten minutes of a call, and it does that before anyone takes your time.

The Coaching Readiness Score scores clarity, commitment and openness. Ready people buy, and the rest learn what to fix first.

Here is how the three dimensions could guide your response.

  • Clarity: does the person know what they want? If not, offer a resource that helps them find out.
  • Commitment: can they give this the time? If not, suggest they come back at a better moment.
  • Openness: are they willing to change how they work? If not, coaching may not be right yet.

Someone who scores well sees your pitch and a link to book or buy. Someone who does not gets honest advice and stays on your list. That second result is not a lost lead. You helped them, and they may come back.

What do you do with the quiz answers?

Read them before the call. In Quizzerfy, each lead keeps their answers, path, score and outcome. You walk in knowing their situation, so the call can start in the middle of the real conversation.

The outcome button can link to any URL, so it can go to a booking page or your checkout on Kajabi, Stan or your own site. The button keeps your UTM tags and adds the visitor’s outcome and answers to the link.

If you sell a low-priced digital product next to your coaching, the same funnel can route people there. See product recommendation quizzes if you have several offers, and the scorecard funnel guide if you want to design your own scoring.

How do you price a coaching program?

Start from the result, not from your hourly rate. Work out what the outcome is worth to a client, then decide on a price that makes the program an easy call for someone who fits.

Your capacity matters as well. If you can take six clients at a time, each place carries a lot of your income, so a low price leaves you stretched. Write down how many hours a client takes each month, including prep and messages, and check that the price still works.

Publish a price or a starting point if you can. Showing it filters out people with no budget before they book, and a quiz can do the same job by asking about budget late in the flow. Payment plans can help a good-fit client say yes, as long as your cash flow can carry them.

How do you build it?

Start from the Coaching Readiness Score, play it, then swap in your program. You can also generate a quiz from your sales page for 10 credits, or have your own AI write it through MCP for no credits. See all templates for other formats, and the pricing section for plans. Leads are unlimited on every plan.
