To segment an email list with a quiz, you turn each quiz outcome into a tag or field in your email tool, then send each group its own follow-up. The subscriber sorts themselves by answering questions, so you do not have to guess who they are from clicks.

## Why does everyone on your list get the same email?

You write one newsletter and one launch sequence, and they go to everybody. You know your list holds beginners and old hands, people with a budget and people browsing. You have no record of who is who, because the signup form only asked for an email.

## What does one list for everyone cost you?

Your pitch has to stay broad. The beginner reads an advanced tip and feels lost. The experienced reader skims a basics email and starts to tune out. When you launch, people who were never a fit get the same emails as those who were ready, and some of them unsubscribe.

## How does a quiz fix this?

A quiz asks the sorting question at the moment someone joins. Each lead then carries an outcome, plus the answers behind it. Your plan has three parts.

1. **Decide the groups.** Use your quiz outcomes. Two to four is enough for a small list.
2. **Send each outcome to your email tool.** Use a field or a tag.
3. **Write one short sequence per group.** Start from their result.

## Which outcomes make good segments?

Good segments change what you would write. Sort by what they need next, not by trivia.

| Quiz type | Segment by | Example follow-up |
|---|---|---|
| Fit check | Ready, close, not yet | Pitch now, handle one doubt, or teach first |
| Scorecard | Weakest dimension | Emails on the area they scored lowest |
| Personality | Type | Examples that match how they work |
| Recommender | Product picked | Details on that product, then a related one |

The [Newsletter Growth Score](https://quizzerfy.com/templates/newsletter-growth-score) is a useful model. One reader’s gap is consistency and another’s is revenue, and those are different email sequences.

## How do you send outcomes to your email tool?

This depends on the tool. Here is how Quizzerfy’s connections behave today.

| Connection | What arrives | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| Kit | Email, first name, and the outcome in a quiz_outcome field | Pro |
| Mailchimp | Email, first name, and the outcome as a tag | Pro |
| Beehiiv | Email, the quiz slug as the UTM campaign, and the outcome in a quiz_outcome field you create | Pro |
| Zapier | Email, name, outcome, scores, answers, path and UTM tags | Pro |
| Webhook | Email, name, outcome, scores, answers, path and UTM tags | All plans |

With Kit and Beehiiv, the outcome lands in a custom field, and with Mailchimp in a tag, so you can build a segment on it in any of the three. You can also run a separate quiz, or a separate list, per audience if that suits your setup better.

And you always have the data inside Quizzerfy. Every lead keeps its answers, path, score and outcome, and you can export a CSV any time.

## What should the first email say?

The first email should repeat their result. A subscriber who just learned their score wants to hear about it, so this email is a natural one to open. Then add one next step.

A simple short sequence for each group looks like this:

- **Email 1:** their result, in a few lines, and one action.
- **Email 2:** the thinking behind that result, in more depth.
- **Email 3:** an example or a common mistake for this group.
- **Email 4:** your product, pitched as the fix for their result.

Keep the sequences short at first. Three or four emails per group are enough to write in a weekend, and you can improve them later.

## What about subscribers you already have?

Send the quiz to your current list. Tell them you want to send more useful emails, and that taking it takes a couple of minutes. Those who answer sort themselves, and a person who does not answer stays on your general list. Your existing subscribers also give you a quick first batch of answers to read.

Top answers also show you how your audience describes itself, and Pro reports them. That can feed your next product idea as well as your next email.

## How many segments should you start with?

Fewer than you think. Every segment is a sequence to write and keep up, so start with the two or three that change your message the most. A beginner group and a ready group will take you a long way.

Decide what happens after the sequence ends as well. Subscribers usually move to your general newsletter, and you can mention their result now and then. When you launch, send the pitch that fits each group, and leave out people who are a poor fit.

Check the results after your first launch. Compare clicks and sales between groups, even roughly. If two segments behave the same, merge them. If one group ignores everything, ask them what they need. Your quiz answers are a starting point, and the replies you get will teach you more.
