To sell ebooks directly, write for one narrow problem, put the guide on a clear sales page, use a checkout that delivers the file, and get it in front of people who already have that problem. The hard part is rarely the file. It is helping a stranger decide the guide will work for them.

## Why is your ebook not selling?

You finished the guide. The PDF looks good, the Gumroad link works, and you posted about it. A few friends bought it, and then the sales stopped.

A visitor looks at your page and sees a cover, a title and a price. They cannot flip through it the way they would in a bookshop. Their doubts are simple ones. They want to know if it suits their level, if they will read it, and if it beats what is free online.

## What does that doubt cost you?

Your best-fit reader leaves, because the page speaks to everyone in the same way. Meanwhile a poor-fit reader may buy, skim two chapters and ask for a refund. Over time you get fewer sales and thinner reviews, and the ebook starts to feel like a failed project when the guide itself may be fine.

## How do you make an ebook easier to sell?

Work through these in order.

### 1. Narrow the promise

A broad guide to email marketing competes with the whole internet. A guide to writing a welcome sequence for a small Etsy shop does not. The narrower the promise, the easier it is for the right reader to say yes.

### 2. Write a sales page that answers the doubts

Your page needs a few things in plain language:

- Who it is for, and who it is not for
- What the reader will be able to do afterwards
- What is inside, chapter by chapter
- How long it takes to read
- A sample, such as the first chapter or a table of contents
- The price and your refund terms

### 3. Pick your checkout

You have two broad routes. A marketplace can bring you readers, but it controls the shop and the customer relationship. A direct checkout on a platform such as Gumroad, Payhip, Stan or Lemon Squeezy lets you sell from your own page to your own audience. Fees and tax handling change, so check the current terms before you commit.

| Route | Good for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Marketplace | Being found by new readers | You do not own the customer |
| Direct checkout | Selling to your own audience | You must bring the traffic |

This guide focuses on direct sales, where a clear pitch matters most.

### 4. Price against the result

Price by what the guide does, not by page count. A short guide that fixes an expensive problem can reasonably cost more than a long one that does not. Decide what the result is worth to the reader, and test from there.

### 5. Promote it through useful content

Take one idea from a chapter and turn it into a post. Do it again with the next idea. Each post shows how you think, and each one links to the guide. Add an email list so a reader who is not ready can stay in touch.

## How can a quiz sell an ebook?

A quiz does what your sales page cannot: it finds out if this guide suits this reader. Instead of hoping the visitor works it out, you ask.

The [Ebook Fit Check](https://quizzerfy.com/templates/ebook-fit) template does this. It finds out if a visitor will read and use your guide, then does one of three things:

1. **Pitches it,** if the guide fits.
2. **Shows them how to read it,** if they fit but tend to leave books unfinished.
3. **Points them elsewhere,** if the guide is wrong for them.

That third result is a sales tool too. Telling someone it is not for them makes your yes easier to believe, and it keeps them on your list for the next product. It can also mean fewer refund requests from poor-fit buyers.

To build yours in Quizzerfy, give it your PDF, an EPUB or your sales page, and it generates questions, branches, scoring, a lead form and outcome pages for 10 credits. Pro includes 150 credits a month, and every plan starts with a 7-day free trial. Your own AI can also build it through MCP, with no credits spent.

## What if you sell more than one ebook?

If you have a small shelf of guides, use a recommender. The [Product Finder](https://quizzerfy.com/templates/product-catalog-finder) sends each visitor to the one that fits their stage, learning style and budget. ## How long should your ebook be?

Long enough to deliver the promise, and no longer. A reader who buys a guide to fix one problem wants that problem fixed. Extra chapters add reading time, and reading time is often the thing standing between a buyer and a result.

Try this test on your outline. For each chapter, ask what the reader can do after finishing it. If you cannot name something, cut the chapter or fold it into another.

Then make the guide easy to use. A short summary at the start of each chapter helps, as do checklists and worked examples. If you know many of your readers skim, tell them which chapters to start with. That advice can go on the quiz result too, which is what the second outcome of the Ebook Fit Check is for.
